He is the advocate

Through the sudden chaos of illness, hospital visits, surgery, care taking, he is the advocate.

He carries with him at all times a book where he writes down every name, every e-mail, every phone extension of the numerous health care professionals he comes in contact with as he and his family travel this difficult road.

He has been continuously advocating for his loved ones.

Although he knows health care professionals are doing their best in challenging situations, he is frustrated, cynical, and has lost his trust in the health care system.

Being in the hospital, it feels like being in the middle of a raging storm.

After this, the palliative care unit was an island of tranquility.

At first, he did not know if he could trust the medical staff when they assured him that the patient’s needs were their number one priority.

Gradually he grew to trust, respect, and cherish everyone on the unit.

He and his family ended up donating a chair to provide comfort and rest for those who provided comfort, rest, and assurance to him and his family.
